Vinte anos de BEING BORING ( twenty years of Pet Shop Boys’ Being Boring)

Twenty years since Being Boring and, however, it seem it was yesterday that I wrote the Tribute Book book For Pet Shop Boys. It all seemed a scholarly game the diary register of my interactions to the PSB’s songs.

Tudo começou com VERY. Ele foi lançado em 1993. Eu tinha dezessete anos.

All begun in VERY. It was release in 1993. I was seventeen. From this point on, I started to understand much better the profound Neil Tennant’s lyrics. To a certain point, with the accomplishment at the English language, I took for granted that the histories within the lyrics had to do with me clearly. So, I started to write down real registers of the messages in the lyrics and the relation to my routine.

Being boring representava uma visão nostálgica.

Being boring represented to me a nostalgic memória. It seemed a trully epitaph directed to a special dear person. To me, without any bigger comprehension, being boring represented the apology to the carp diem; the searching for a greater inspiration; the youth experience. Naked bodies; young people enjoying the simplicities of life. Needlesss to say about the young gorgeous guy and his dog playing like just youth experience could explain. Memorable.

All the people I was kissing, some are here and some are missing!” Lamento feito ainda antes, lá em It couldn’t happen here.

But the lyrics had other purposes and had to do with death, homesickness. Later I figured out that Neil wrote the music due to the loss of a great friend, because the complications of the epidemic HIV.: : “All the people I was kissing, some are here and some are missing!” The devastation that the virus caused amidst his friends. This kind of grieving was done before in the song: It couldn’t happen here. It was scaring at that time to think about that it could happen.

I CAME FROM NEW CASTLE IN THE NORTH OF ENGLAND. WE USED TO HAVE LOTS OF PARTIES WHERE EVERYONE GOT DRESSED UP. AND ON A PARTY INVITATION WAS THE QUOTE: “ SHE WAS NEVER BORED BECAUSE SHE WAS NEVER BORING. THE SONG IS ABOUT GROWING UP___ THE DEALS THAT YOU HAVE WHEN YOU’RE YOUNG AND HOW THEY TURN OUT.
